Schedule
Saturday, Aug 12
Showcase Friday evening and/or Sat. afternoon
Times TBD
All classes, rehearsals, and showcases will be held at the
Jane Bergstrom Fine Arts Education Center on the campus of St. Mary Catholic High School.
1050 Zephyr Drive, Neenah, WI
Enter through Door 9.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about and devolop different acting techniques through dramatic games, scene work, improvisation, and small group exercises to develop confidence, creativity, and stage presence. Students will learn one choreographed song from a Broadway musical, which will be performed at the end of the workshop in a Showcase Performance.
This is a fun, fast-paced workshop that will push students to rely on their own ability and the teamwork that comes from an ensemble to bring out the best in all of them. New this year, we will be focusing on the process rather than the Showcase in order to maximize instruction in an enjoyable environment. While professional theatre instruction will be provided, Kathleen’s hope is that students will learn to apply the skills learned in this workshop on the “stage of life” in addition to the many performance opportunities that exist in their schools and community.
DEVELOP: confidence through song and dance
BUILD: self-esteem
STRESS: coordination and teamwork
INCLUDE: teaching of dramatic exercises, dance and vocal music
PRESENT: one casual performances on stage

Mrs. McCurdy has been developing and directing children’s theatre workshops for over 20 years, moving to Neenah after spending the majority of her professional career in New York City. She is an experienced actor/singer/dancer having performed professionally in 48 states & Canada, appearing in tv commercials and independent films.
Kathleen is most proud to count Broadway Musicals & National Tours among her credits. Beginning her professional acting career at age six, she has been in countless musicals. Some favorites include Candide, Anything Goes, Carousel, & Singing in the Rain.
Kathleen has directed and choreographed at the Elementary, Middle School, High School and College levels in addition to Regional Professional theaters. Prior to moving to Neenah, she developed and led drama clubs in elementary schools in the Naperville 204 School District. She was also a counselor for Show-choir Camps of America and a presidential Scholar (full academic scholar) recipient at Millikin Univ., where she majored in Music/Theatre with a Dance minor.
Since moving to Neenah, Kathleen has been pleased to continue working with children in Fine arts. Locally, she was the guest artist and Director of the Appleton Boys Choir’s “Boys on Broadway”, the Director of a vocal ensemble that performed in Sicily, and directed or worked on special projects within the Appleton, Brillion, Kaukauna, Neenah and St. Mary Catholic Schools systems. Most recently, the Neenah High School productions Spamalot, Chicago, and Seussical she Directed were named Outstanding Overall Productions by the Center Stage Musical Theater Awards for high school theater.
Internationally, Kathleen created a musical theatre performance and education tour throughout the UK. During her most recent tour, Kathleen was honored to have McCurdy Theatre Arts students work with the Welsh theatre group, Unknown Theatre Company, and Composer/Director James Williams in the creation of an original One Act musical (Cult The Musical), which was co-written in Wales and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
